Ted Baker Camel Wrap Coat (on sale now!), Ted Baker Purse, Express Lace Tee, Old Navy black denim, Shoes via TJ Maxx

I always used to think that black and brown could never go together, but after pairing this camel coat with an all black outfit, I have a whole new perspective. In fact, now I almost always wear this coat with something black! It's funny how a little step outside of your comfort zone can give you so many more options. And, this idea doesn't only apply to my wardrobe. As my MBA graduation draws closer (2 weeks to go!), it reminds me how just one decision to step outside of my comfort zone and choose to go to business school, that too away from home, broadened my career perspectives and outlook on life. I can't believe that a year and a half has gone by so quickly and how much I've learned in such a short time frame. I enjoyed my time here in Chicago, but I am thrilled to be moving back to California to put my degree to use (and put some of these coats in storage for a while!!).

Spread the Love

Happy Valentine's Day! Whether you love this red and pink heart-filled day or think it's a cheesy waste of time, I think it's important to remember it's centered around love. And right now, everyone could use a little bit of extra love and kindness in their lives.

So, in addition to (if not instead of) the overpriced bouquets and heart-shaped chocolates, take this day as a reminder of the power of love and how it can truly bring about change in this world that has become so encompassed by hate. Take an extra moment to hold the door open for someone, support a small local business, or even just smile at a stranger. It's not just about love for your significant other or your "Galentines." It's about the compassion and love for all of humanity, no matter who they are and where they come from. Let's spread the love!

One Year Later: Wedding Planning Reflections

Party Planning, LifestyleIman Siddiqui2 Comments

Just a couple weeks ago, Aamir and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary, and we couldn't help but reminisce about our wedding week and the beautiful memories we shared with our closest family and friends. Our first year of marriage has been an exciting time, and we both know this is only just the beginning. Over the last year, we have fondly remembered our wedding and the entire wedding planning process. Even though there were some stressful times and there was a lot of thought and effort put into every detail, overall, we couldn't have asked for a more smooth journey. Every time we think about this, we realize that in addition to the long hours both our families put in to our wedding, it all came down to the amazing team of vendors that we had working together as a team to bring our wedding dreams and visions to life.

Knowing my vendors and seeing their work beforehand gave me a lot of comfort during the entire planning process and wedding week. Because of my work in the South Asian wedding industry, I knew where to go from the minute I got engaged. But most brides are not that lucky, and many struggle to secure reputable and trusted vendors for their big day. From both my professional and personal experience, I highly recommend newly engaged brides and couples to attend bridal shows and expos! These shows are a great way to spend an afternoon getting inspiration and information about the latest trends, meeting vendors and seeing their work first hand, and maybe doing a little pre-wedding shopping! Many of the vendors from our wedding as well as lots of others from SoCal will be at the Wedding Show by South Asian Bride Magazine this Sunday, January 15th in Irvine! If you are recently engaged or a future bride-to-be, it is definitely worth checking out!

Lishma Patel of Beauty by Lishma worked her magic on me every single day of our wedding. She is a beauty goddess! She did everything from my hair and makeup, to mehndi (henna) and draping (for both me and Aamir!)

Our Wedding and Reception decor was the amazing work of Shawna and her team from Shawna Yamamoto Event Design. She is a true artist and went above and beyond for our events.

Our day-of stationery was the work of Poorvi Patel Matani from Invite Ink; It was the perfect way to tie every detail together.

The lighting and sound for all our events was executed flawlessly by Amit Kotecha and his team at 3D Sounds

Me and Aamir with Ajita- our amazing coordinator, friend, and saving grace who handled our events with such poise and professionalism. Our wedding wouldn't have been the same without her!

We were incredibly lucky to have a solid vendor team we knew we could trust to make our wedding perfect. Since I worked as an event coordinator with Ajita Chopra of Ajita Chopra Events during college, I had the opportunity to see some of the best vendors in the Southern California area in action. Additionally, through the many events we worked on together, I was able to build long-lasting professional and personal relationships with them. But through the four years I worked with Ajita, I never imagined that I would one day be the bride on the other side, entrusting the most important day of life to the vendors I was accustomed to help coordinate!

Thinking about our wedding is bringing back so many happy memories. I think every couple deserves to have a stress-free and memorable wedding experience, and it starts with working with the right vendors. Let me know if you are able to check out the Bridal Show by South Asian Bride Magazine this weekend!

This bundled up look has been on hold for the last few days ever since I landed in California. But vacation mode has definitely not. Well, let's be honest, I've been in vacation mode since Thanksgiving! Now that finals are out of my mind and another semester has ended, I'm nothing less than ecstatic to be in 70 degree weather with all of my favorite people. It's been nonstop fun so far, and it's only just begun. We have quite the next few weeks planned before the new year begins.

This week, I spent time catching up with friends and eating pretty much all day long. I'm headed to Harry Potter World tomorrow and literally can't wait because I've been wanting to go ever since the Orlando one opened! I'm soaking in every bit of sun that I can before returning to the "winter wonderland" that is Chicago!

Faux Fur Vest for Fall

As quickly as it came, fall is already over; we had our first snow of the season yesterday! I stayed cozy inside and watched the city turn white in my fuzzy socks and warm blanket. It's also finally the last week of this semester, and saying I'm ready for the end is an understatement. I can't wait to get a break!

I wore this fall-inspired outfit a few weekends ago for a day out in the city. We had brunch at Cindy's (an absolute must-try if you're in Chicago!) and then walked over to the Art Institute. The pancakes at Cindy's were delicious, and I can't wait to go back to indulge again. Thank goodness this shirt is so flowy and forgiving, because we ate so much!

This week is finals week, which means long hours at the library, eating all kinds of junk food, and counting the hours until my flight back to LA! Also, I can't believe it's already December. This time last year I was frantically trying to finish up finals so I could get home and get married! For the last 10 years, December has been a month full of excitement and surprises. In fact some of the biggest moments of my life have happened during this month- From meeting Aamir, to getting engaged, to getting married, it's always been a special time of every year. I can't wait to see what this year has in store!
